ARMAND AUBERY PERSONAL

The owner and principal designer of Architecture and Interiors, Inc. I have had to experience all sides of this business, from client relations, real estate selection, budgeting, design, working drawings, construction supervision, decorating and furniture designing. I have had clients in Europe, North America, Latin America notably Mexico and Brazil. I have completed residential, commercial and hospitality projects. I also designed furniture, lighting and accessories as well as interiors and entire buildings.

My clientele is very varied but always exclusive; I started my career in the textile industry assisting designers like Peter Marino on the construction of Barney’s on 17th street in NYC. I also worked with Henry Samuel and Thierry Despont on John and Suzanne Gutfreund’s 12000 sqf apartment on 5th Avenue. I helped in the refurbishing of the board rooms of the New York Stock Exchange. At 26 I opened my own firm and quickly had a very international clientele. My big hit at the time was a restaurant and lounge in the late 80’s on west Broadway in NYC called “Jour et Nuit”. In the mid 1990’s I was hired by Sir James Goldsmith the late British billionaire financier to renovate his Hacienda in Mexico, the Hacienda de San Antonio in the state of Colima, it is now a hotel. In the mid 90’s I moved to Miami had many clients there and in Latin America. My most prestigious project was the Conrad Residences in Miami that I designed for Estoril a division of Espirito Santo Bank from Portugal. In the late 90’s and early 2000’s most of my business was in Brazil were I designed beach front condo buildings in the southern state of Santa Catarina. Metropolis a 42 stories tower under construction will be the tallest building in Southern Brazil. I am currently working on the refurbishing of the public areas of the “Hotel on Rivington” in lower Manhattan.

As for myself, I am born on March 3rd 1960 in the French Caribbean from French parents. My father who owned land there built hotels in St Barth and Guadeloupe, the Club Med La Caravelle in Guadeloupe was one of our properties. I was educated in Switzerland at Le Rosey School. I have traveled very extensively throughout my life. I attended the Beaux Arts School of Architecture in Paris, went to Harvard as a foreign student, then moved to New York and graduated from Parsons School of Design with a BFA in environmental design. I also went to the Institute for architecture and Urban Studies in NYC. I am fluent in French, English and Spanish. I have good knowledge of Portuguese and Italian. Studied many years of German but never practiced.
